Bob was a go-getter, a visionary and an astute businessman.
Little did we know that he would create a South Australian legacy. This is his story.
How it all started…
It all started on an ordinary day in the 1940s when Bob unexpectedly received a job offer to sell blinds on a commission basis. And boy, did he excel at it! With a newfound love for the blind industry, Bob decided to take the leap and start his own blind company – RJ Burns and Co.
As time went on, Bob’s business thrived. He and his wife, Marie, assembled blinds in their back shed and eventually opened their first showroom on South Road in 1956. The brand quickly became a household name in Adelaide, with Bob expanding his premises and workforce to meet customer demand.
By the time 1982 rolled around, Bob, now 54 years old, decided it was time to retire. He sold the business to Solomon’s Carpets, anticipating a well-deserved rest. But life had other plans for Bob.
A generational legacy
In 1992, unable to suppress his passion for curtains and blinds, Bob made another bold move. He joined forces with his daughter, Sandy, and together they created another curtain and blind business – Bob Burns Blinds. This time, it was a true family affair.
With a dedicated team of old and new employees, it wasn’t long until the brand was a market leader once again. Although Bob sadly passed away in 2016, his remarkable craftsmanship, quality, and outstanding service still lives on.
In 2022, another change of the guard took place. Sandy decided to retire, passing the business down to her children, Russell and Belinda. Today, Bob Burns Blinds proudly stands as the first and only third-generation window furnishings business in South Australia.
Are you ready to experience the Bob Burns difference? We certainly hope so!
